Why More Couples Are Choosing Micro Weddings

Victoria Burroughes

If you're currently staring at a venue's minimum numbers and wondering why you need eighty people to justify the room hire, a micro wedding solves that problem. Here's the case for it, beyond "it's cheaper."

You choose who's there, not who's owed an invitation. Above a certain guest count, most weddings stop being a list of people the couple wants there and start being a list of people who'd be offended not to be. Capping the day at fifty, or thirty, or fifteen, forces that list back down to people who actually matter to you, making the day feel more personal.

The admin shrinks with the guest list. Seating plans, dietary spreadsheets, RSVP chasing, table favours multiplied by table count - all of it scales with headcount. Halve the guest list and you cut the admin by considerably more.

Venue choice opens right up. A wedding for twenty doesn't need a dedicated wedding venue with a hundred-cover marquee. It fits in a village hall, a garden, a function room, someone's house - which usually means more character, lower cost, and a much shorter list of venues to compare.

Room for a format that suits you - not tradition for tradition's sake. A sit-down three-course meal makes sense for eighty people who need managing through a timeline. For thirty, a relaxed buffet works better. People eat when they're ready, mingle instead of being seated in a fixed plan, and the whole day loses a layer of formality that a lot of couples don't want in the first place.

The stress drops. Fewer suppliers to coordinate, fewer moving parts on the day, less that can go wrong with a smaller room and a shorter guest list. Couples who've gone small consistently report the day itself felt calmer - which, given it's meant to be the best day of your life, is the whole point.

None of this requires cutting corners on the food, the setting, or how special the day feels. It just means the effort goes into the things that matter, for the people who matter most. If a buffet-style day for up to fifty guests sounds closer to what you're after, I've built exactly that: take a look at my micro wedding catering page for how it works and what it costs.
